Well….after a year of searching on line and 2 months of looking at over 30 prospective boats, we finally found her…..”Slow Flight”.
She is a 1979 45 ft. center cockpit Morgan model 45-2 ketch rig (means there are 2 masts). We will post a video and tour of the boat when our projects are all done but for now, below is a list of features:
- 75 hp Perkins engine with we think about 5000 hours on it
- 7.5 kw generator to give us power and to charge up the batteries
- 2 ct 125 gallon water tanks (250 gallons)
- 3 ct 70gallon diesel tanks (210 gallons) giving an approximate range of 900-1200 miles
- 2 reverse cycle AC/Heat systems (1 aft and 1 in the main salon)
- 2 heads (aka bathrooms)
- Sleeps 9…..technically (but really sleep 6 comfortably) 1 double aft cabin, 1 double forward cabin, 1 double settee, 1 double U-shaped settee, 1 single pullman berth
- SSB transmitting/receiver (means we can connect other ships far away)(once we figure out how to use it)
- Garmin navigation (Chart plotter & GPS)
- Raymarine/Simrad auto pilot (helps with steering/keeping course so we don’t have to hand steer ALL the time but someone will always be at the helm to be on watch) Lincon is its name. It has freed us, the slaves (name stollen from an unknown source)
- Freezer and Fridge
- Sea water pump in the galley (aka kitchen)
- Fresh water hand pump in the galley (so we don’t have to use electricity to engage the fresh water pumps)
- Electric fresh water flushing toilets (Good: because when you mix sea water with “waste”…this leads to a sulfur smell, which we won’t have. Bad: it uses electricity to flush….still up for debate at this point)
- 2 showers and in the aft head, we have a 4 ft. tub (no way)
- Teak and holy cabin soul (this means the inside floor of the boat)
- and many more details I won’t bore you with : )
Of course Trevor is already in the details and starting to make her our own. I anticipate the following posts will relate to all the projects we are undertaking.
Welcome, Slow Flight! Sail safely!
