After our unexpected overnight passage we finally found ourselves safely docked at Port Dickson Marina. Let’s just say the entire rally needed a rest and the marina did such an incredible job getting all of us weary sailors into an already full marina.
Front of the Port Dickson Marina and resort OMG…the POOL!!!! We were here everyday…no joke!
It was time to check the damage from the Sumantra we expereinced in Melaka…
Well our anchor was not secure enough and jumped off our bow roller…. really it’s cosmetic…. “Fascinating”…Our anchor ‘Spock’ says…..
The rally had arranged for a bus tour of the nearby capital city of Kuala Lumpar (KL) where we visited the iconic Twin towers, the Hindu temple in the caves, the Sultans residence (just the outside…we weren’t invited in LOL), the war monument, and a market.
back of the bus…again
NO words needed…I was speechless myself! Though I am definitely out of shape…. Inside the cave….. “What you looking at Willis?”
Sultan’s residence
Malaysia’s Coat of Arms… Look familiar? This is the national war memorial designed by Felix De Weldon, who also did the Marine Corps War Memorial in Virginia, USA.
Petronas Twin Towers…for all you Mission Impossible fans…didn’t go inside…I think it costs money to do so…
Cute Central Market…. Ummm..Central market even sells shoes for….bound feet?!
Beautiful mosques everywhere! Old and new… Lots of shapes everywhere… I really liked this guy drinking his beverage outside a local food store front….
Trevor proving that I only sit in the back of the bus… So 7-11 served charcoal ice cream?! Trevor of course tried one and his lips and tongue were black1 On our bus ride home…I caught a few workers taking a nap on their way home.
During our 2 weeks at the marina resting and relaxing at the pool…we met Henrick, a Swedish sailor who had his boat in the marina 2 boats down from us. We met in the pool and invited him over for a beer. The next morning….he invited us to have lunch with him at a “really good local restaurant” he wanted to share with us….plus their speciality was fish head soup which (I understand now) is best shared among friends.
Thanks Henrick for such a wonderful lunch and great company…..wish we had more time to meet your family…keep in touch! We have seen this in Malaysia…not so much in Indonesia… there is always a sink to wash your hands before and after a meal….I really like the idea! Eating with your hands is a skill..especially if you’re left handed like Trevor. Left hands are considered dirty…
Then it was Thanksgiving…just before the fleet was planning to head off to our next port. There was a pre-arranged rally event that night so I discussed with Sazli and the marina if we could piggy-back on the rally evening event to include a Thanksgiving Potluck…and they said yes…I once again inflicted our American culture onto these poor people again…thankfully (no pun intended) there were a few US flagged boats in the fleet and they especially enjoyed it.
Sazlie making a speech….thanking the marina and such for our rally Then they made me make a speech…..
The Thanksgiving dishes…everyone contributed ….. The desserts were to die for! This was our contribution….. A roast I had been saving..we would of cooked it on Thanksgiving wherever we were. Fresh green beans..I think SV Erie Spirit (Mark and Susan) contributed the fried onion to make a the famous green bean casserole. And of course … an apple crisp..not like my mom’s apple pie…but on a boat… it will do : )
Photos from the night….the entire fleet and staff of the marina enjoyed themselves…at least that is what they told me ; )
Sail Malaysia fleet 2018…just before we gorged ourselves on Thanksgiving goodness!!!!
Let’s just say… we had a BLAST!!!
Most of the rally worked their way up north to Pankor after Thanksgiving…. Not in a rush…Trevor and I decided to stay at the marina for a week as the amenities and pool just took hold over us. For the few extra days we stayed we had our bottom side scrubbed, hung out at the pool, Trevor went to a 3D museum with SV Kenobi, Trevor got multiple massages (he goes more than I do!) and met our new friends on SV Steal Sapphire, Peter and Jen (and Dixie, their cat). Peter and Jen were not part of the Malaysia rally but we made quick friends. You’ll hear more about them later : )
