Boring boat work and chores….Walvis Bay, Namibia clearance out….mic drop!

So….in between Sunday “fun-day’s”….We have been nose in deep trying to get the final parts and pieces for the long haul across the Atlantic Ocean and setting up to be offline for about 2 months. This meant taxes mostly done, research on the next places we are going, insurance renewal for the boat, scheduling a survey for the boat, and discussions about budget.

Mostly the reason we have been here in Namibia for so long was because we were waiting for the delivery of our exhaust elbow for our generator that Trevor ordered just before we left Cape Town. It took 1 1/2 weeks to get here and a few days back and forth with customs and DHL. But we finally got it and Trevor installed it….luckily it was easy peasy!

Remember our alternator was on the fritz on our way here and was showing 15.1 volts on our battery chargers…..well this took Trevor 3 days to figure out…well we still don’t know exactly what the problem is but after installing all of our spare alternators, re-wiring everything, Trevor finally decided to put in a switch so we can run the engine and charge the batteries or choose not to so we don’t damage them….these days were not fun on Slow Flight…

Trevor also “secured” the rudder feedback pump with a wood block…this was to fix a “clunk” we were hearing during our passage to Namibia…

Replaced the bilge pump float switch and a few other maintenance projects….he was pretty busy….

We were given a contact for fuel named Steven. We took Slow Flight to the small craft harbor to get fueled up from a pump rather than trying to fill with jerry jugs in a taxi.

Laundry was pretty simple….we could call and schedule to leave our laundry bags at the WBYC restaurant and Linda’s Washing Well would come and pick it up and drop off…we just paid the restaurant what we owed…easy peasy : )

We only got 1 week SIM cards so we eventually had to top up but instead of going back to the mall, we found a MTC in town.

Clearance out: Easy peasy…we think….?

And just for fun…

Our second home… the WBYC…this place was super friendly and welcoming. All the servers in the restaurant were kind and of course Danel, who helped us get in contact with everything we needed….Thank you Danel!

Mic drop…that’s a wrap….very little internet from here on out. We have about 5,000 nautical miles until we are in the Caribbean. Internet is incredibly expensive in St. Helena and Ascension islands so it will only be used to email and possibly post something on FaceBook.

Wish us luck and we will be back in touch in a few months…feel free to email us at our satellite email address but please text only and no images, photos, attachments…we won’t be able to download the large sized email : )

Satellite email (Iridium Go): svslowflight@myiridium.net

See you soon!!!
